Museum Auschwitz - how to get there from Krakow and Katowice

The Museum is in the town of Oświęcim. Independent visitors usually go to Oświęcim by bus from Krakow – there are over a dozen connections every day. Coaches leave from Krakow coach station and stop close to the museum. The coach driver will tell you which stop in Oświęcim you need to get off at. It takes around one and a half hours by coach to travel the 70 km from Krakow to Oświęcim.

There are also over a dozen local trains daily from Krakow to Oświęcim, and these also take around an hour and a half. Get off at Oświęcim station, and from here it is around half an hour’s walk, or you can take a taxi or one of the service buses that stop directly outside the train station (No. 2, 3, 4, 5, 9, 10). Get off at the third stop, “Muzeum”.

from Katowice

Some visitors also come from Katowice, a city around 40 km from Oświęcim. From Katowice the best connection is by local train; it takes around an hour.
For people flying to the airports Katowice-Pyrzowice or Kraków Balice, we recommend catching either the airport bus to the railway station in Katowice or the rail link to Krakow railway and coach station; from here change onto a train or coach for Oświęcim. In this case it will take around three and a half hours (depending on flight times and local connections) to reach Oświęcim.
