Round trip to Gdansk and Masuria

Visit Gdansk - get an insight into the history of this Hanseatic city, a city of many peoples and cultures. Drive to Westerplatte, the place where the Second World War began. From Gdansk-Langfuhr on the traces of Günter Grass to the gate of the Gdansk shipyard, the cradle of Solidarnosc. And further via Malbork, the former residence of the Grand Master of the Teutonic Order, and Frombork on the Vistula Lagoon, where Nicolaus Copernicus is buried, to East Prussia. A journey through famous places and historical sites: Olsztyn, Dobre Miasto, Gizycko, Swieta Lipka, Mikolajki. Meeting with the history and beautiful nature of the thousand lakes of the Masurian Lakeland.

Day 1
Arrival in Gdansk hotel and our first city exploration.

Day 2 
Approaching the history of the thousand-year-old city
morning A guided tour of the old town focusing on the themes: Gdansk as a Hanseatic city, the role of the Germans, Poles and other nationalities in the construction of the city, Gdansk as a "Free City" (City Hall, Fish Market, Old Port, Long Market, Neptune Fountain, Artus Court, St. Mary's Street and others).
afternoon Continuation of the tour and free time.
evening Dinner in a restaurant in the old town.

Day 3
Gdansk in World War II 
morning Trip by ship through Gdansk shipyard to Westerplatte, the place where the 2nd World War began. Visit of the local memorial "Watchtower". Walk to the memorial "The Defenders of Gdansk" and the building of the Polish Post Office.
The Gdansk of Günter Grass
afternoon A walk through the Langfuhr/Wrzeszcz district - the birthplace of Grass and the settings of his Gdansk Trilogy.
evening Dinner in a restaurant in the old town.

Day 4
Gdansk as the cradle of Solidarnosc 
morning Visit to the Brigitte Church and the monument dedicated to the victims of the workers' protests of 1970 in front of the main gate of the Gdansk Shipyard. Visit to the History Exhibition of Solidrność in the European Centre of Solidarity.
afternoon Free time, optional visit to the Museum of the Second World War.
Gdansk as a new home
evening Conversation with one of the Gdansk writers about the roots and new identity of Gdansk's inhabitants.

Day 5
Malbork and Olsztyn
morning Departure from Gdansk in the direction of Malbork. Visit of the former headquarters of the Teutonic Order in Malbork.
afternoon Continuation of the journey to Olsztyn. City walk, a visit to the St. Jacob's Church and the castle.
evening A conversation with a representative of the "Borussia" company - a citizens' initiative that takes care of preserving the multicultural heritage in Masurian Accommodation in Olsztyn.

Day 6
The Masurian Landscapes
morning Departure from Olsztyn towards Mikołajki. Stop in Piecki - the birthplace of Ernst Wiechert and in Krutyn - boat trip on the Krutynien river.
afternoon Arrival in Mikołajki. Lunch break. Continuation by boat from Mikołajki to Gizycko.
evening Dinner in the hotel restaurant. Accommodation in Gizycko.

Day 7
The Masurian Landscapes II
morning & afternoon Drive from Gizycko in the direction of Elblag with several stops along the way:
- Gierłoż with "Wolf's Lair" - Hitler's Headquarters,
- Święta Lipka - the most famous Masurian place of pilgrimage and the most splendid example of the late Baroque
- Sightseeing of the city Reszel with its gothic episcopal castle,
- Lidzbark Warminski- the residence of the bishops of Moravia with an impressive castle
evening Arrival in Elblag. Dinner at the hotel restaurant. Accommodation in Elblag.

Day 8
The town of Copernicus

morning & afternoon Drive from Elbląg to the Copernicus town - Frombork. On the way stop in Kadyny/Cadinen with the castle of the last German Emperor Wilhelm II and a stud farm with noble horses. Arrival in Frombork. Sightseeing of the town and the cathedral with the grave of Copernicus. The boat trip over the Vistula Lagoon and a stay at the Baltic Sea in Krynica Morska. Free time (you can climb a lighthouse, walk along the beach, buy souvenirs and taste a delicious fried or smoked Baltic Sea fish).
evening Arrival in Gdansk. Dinner in the Old Town. Accommodation in Gdansk.

Day 9
Return journey.
