KRAKOW SIGHTSEEING AND CITY TOURS

Discovering literature and art in Krakow. Krakow City Tour.

Krakow is sometimes called Poland’s cultural capital. As a city of art and literature, Krakow is permanently inscribed in the history of Polish culture due to the many artists and authors it has produced. Starting in the Main Market Square you can see artistic works from across the ages: the masterpiece of Wit Stwosz (Veit Stoss) - the altar - carved in wood which stands in St. Mary’s Basilica, the Secession polychromy of Stanislaw Wyspianski in the Franciscans church or the avant-garde art of Tadeusz Kantor. You can also see the best examples of modern art in several art galleries such as Zderzak Gallery.

Krakow is also a center for the literature. The two Literature Nobel Prize winners Wislawa Szymborska and Czeslaw Milosz lived and worked here. Similarly Slawomir Mrożek and Stanislaw Lem. This tour is not simply a trip around famous monuments, but a journey enriched by literary and artistic works. Your guide, a specialist in literature, will take you through each step, introducing you in a deep and novel way to a city that you are just getting to know.

The last stop of the tour is the original and colorful Art Nouveau interior of the Jama Michalika Café. Sitting down for a cup of coffee or a glass of Polish vodka allows time for rest and discussion about the role of art and literature in the city of Krakow.
